Places to Visit iModela

April 2011 – Gadget Show, NEC Birmingham

iModela certainly broke new ground when we provided it’s UK debut at a show more accustomed to showcasing new media and gaming technology.

iModela represents a first in giving real 2D and 3D machining technology at a price and in a package that makes its accessible for anyone to use in the home. This fits well with the ‘everything bespoke’ agenda much talked about in manufacturing circles. The point was not lost on visitors and interest was strong throughout the show. The buzz looks certain to continue as model makers and technology fans consider the impact iModela can have at the cutting edge of new ways of working.

November 2011 – Design & Technology Show, NEC Birmingham

iModela has obvious impact for education and the annual D&T Show provided the ideal platform to launch this breakthrough machine to UK Schools and Colleges.

iModela works in exactly the same way as ‘conventional’ CNC machines, it uses the same software and produces the same results. The only difference is scale and output speed but this need not be a problem for training. As education budgets are increasingly squeezed, the ability of iModela to provide whole-class access to real CAD/CAM experience is a highly cost-effective proposition. For the cost of one large scale CNC machine, a class-set of iModelas could be provided. This can free-up workshop resources and, in the case of some HE establishments, give students a loan machine to develop projects and understanding in their own time.

The D&T Show attracts a well-informed and experienced audience so it was good but not surprising that iModela’s potential was well received.

January 2012 – Bett Show, Olympia, London

Bett 2012 is an international showcase for the latest in educational technology and, by now, many delegates were keen to see the ‘new baby’ from Roland DG. Throughout the four day event, we kept iModela busy machining name brooches. This meant regular work with a vacuum cleaner but we were careful not to be too tidy. There’s nothing like real swarf to emphasise that iModela is a real machine capable of routine, repetitive work to a high standard. It also gave the chance to demonstrate just how easy the set up and output routine is – if you can model it in CAD then iModela makes the CAM part both simple and logical.

We were delighted to receive a very positive response from Primary and Middle School teachers as well. Most didn’t have CAD/CAM in mind when they had arrived at the Show but were intrigued to find a unique resource that could powerfully engage their students. iModela provides a neat fit with primary curriculum objectives and presents an inherently safe and unthreatening package for younger children.

March 2012 – Education Show, NEC Birmingham

With iModela’s potential already well-tested for technology education, the Education Show was a chance to expose a much wider section of the education community to the opportunities presented by affordable, reliable CAD/CAM technology. As with the Gadget Show, iModela was very well received and recognised as a powerful learning resource for learners who need strong engagement and tangible evidence of their learning. iModela allows students to create and have ownership of professional quality projects – a strong incentive for learning.

School leaders and business managers were quick to spot iModela’s potential as a key resource for enterprise projects. Several saw the chance to save hard-pressed budgets by in-house production of staff badges, trophies and signage! As long as they fit the iModela’s work area – why not? A vast selection of professional quality engraving laminates are available and all can be quickly and easily worked with iModela.
